Spread the mince in the pan and cook it thoroughly until no pink or raw areas remain. Do not use utensils or plates that touched raw meat for the cooked dish without washing them first.
It is largely a preference, but pregnant people, young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems should choose fully cooked eggs. For a safer option, cook until both the whites and yolks are set.
It can turn watery when tomatoes release a lot of liquid or the pan is overcrowded. Brown the mince first, then let the tomato mixture reduce slightly before adding the eggs.
Medium-fat beef mince gives the tomato sauce good flavor without making it excessively greasy. Lean beef or turkey mince can make a lighter version, although turkey mince should be cooked briefly to avoid dryness.
Its protein-containing ingredients can make it a useful post-workout main meal. If eating it shortly before exercise, choose a smaller, less oily portion and consider adding an easy-to-digest carbohydrate source.
Eating it at night is not inherently harmful, but a rich or spicy version may worsen reflux or indigestion in sensitive people. Using less oil, limiting chilli, and finishing the meal a few hours before bed may be more comfortable.
Whole-grain bread, bulgur, or a low-salt salad can add complex carbohydrates and extra fibre to the meal. Fresh herbs, rocket, or leafy salad also add volume and freshness alongside the tomato-based dish.
Refrigerate it in a covered container within two hours of cooking. Eat it within 3 to 4 days, reheat it until piping hot throughout, and avoid repeatedly cooling and reheating it.
It can be frozen, but cooked eggs may become rubbery or release water after thawing. For better texture, freeze the minced-meat tomato base without eggs, then reheat it and add fresh eggs when serving.
No single meal automatically raises cholesterol in everyone. Blood lipids are influenced by the overall diet, saturated fat intake, and individual health factors; people with high cholesterol or cardiovascular disease should discuss portion sizes and meat choices with a clinician or dietitian.
