The seasoning sachet is usually the main source of sodium. Using only part of the sachet is a simple way to reduce the saltiness of the finished meal.
Add a protein food such as egg, yogurt, chicken, tofu, or beans. Fresh or frozen vegetables can also make the meal more filling and nutritionally varied.
Draining may remove some dissolved fat and seasoning, including some sodium, but it does not eliminate the salt already in the noodles. Using less of the flavour packet is usually more effective.
Their carbohydrate content can provide pre-workout energy, though oily or spicy varieties may upset some stomachs. After training, they are better paired with a protein-rich food rather than eaten alone.
Eating them at night does not by itself cause weight gain; overall intake and portion habits matter more. Their salt content can, however, cause thirst, bloating, and temporary water-weight changes by the next day.
Regular dried pasta typically has a shorter ingredient list, while instant noodles are often pre-fried or otherwise processed and come with concentrated seasoning. Instant noodles can therefore be higher in added fat and sodium, depending on the product.
Occasional use can fit into many diets, but they are not ideal as an everyday staple. As an ultra-processed food with little fibre and often substantial sodium, they are best balanced with mostly minimally processed meals.
Keep opened noodles and any unused seasoning in an airtight container in a cool, dry cupboard. Moisture can make the noodles stale and can affect the quality of the added oils.
They can be frozen, but the noodles often become soft and sticky after thawing. Cool leftovers promptly, freeze them in a sealed container, and reheat until piping hot.
Many instant noodle seasoning packets are high in sodium, which may be unsuitable for people advised to limit salt. Those with hypertension, kidney disease, or fluid retention should check the label and follow advice from their healthcare professional.
