Espresso tastes more concentrated, but “stronger” depends on the bean, dose, and drink size. A larger filter coffee made from the same beans can provide more total caffeine.
Caffeine can remain active for hours, and sensitivity varies widely. If sleep is easily affected, try finishing espresso at least 6–8 hours before bedtime.
For some people, espresso on an empty stomach can worsen heartburn, nausea, or reflux symptoms. Having it with a small meal or choosing decaf may be better tolerated if this happens.
Milk does not remove the caffeine in the espresso shot. It may make the drink easier to sip and can feel gentler on the stomach for some people.
In adults who tolerate caffeine, an espresso before exercise may support alertness and focus. Avoid it close to training if it causes jitters, palpitations, or stomach discomfort.
In usual amounts, coffee does not automatically cause dehydration or cancel out fluid intake. It should not replace water, especially in hot weather or during prolonged exercise.
Keep beans in an airtight, opaque container in a cool, dry cupboard. Refrigeration is usually not ideal because repeated temperature changes can introduce moisture and odors.
Ground coffee loses aroma quickly after grinding, so grinding immediately before brewing gives the best result. Store opened ground coffee airtight and use it as soon as practical.
Noticeable sourness is often linked to under-extraction, while harsh or burnt bitterness can result from over-extraction or a very dark roast. Adjusting grind size, water temperature, dose, and shot time gradually can improve balance.
Pregnancy guidance generally recommends limiting total daily caffeine from all sources, including tea, chocolate, and energy drinks. Follow the limit advised by your obstetric clinician or midwife.
