Once opened, it starts losing carbonation quickly, so it is best consumed within 1-2 days if refrigerated. Flavor fades faster if the bottle or can is not sealed well.
Keep it cold and tightly closed to slow the loss of carbonation. Avoid unnecessary shaking, which increases foaming and pressure loss.
It is not a good substitute for a sports drink or recovery drink. The sugar and, in many versions, caffeine may give a short-lived boost, but water and a balanced meal are usually better around training.
It can contribute some fluid, but it is not the best everyday hydration choice compared with water. It is better not to let it replace plain water as a habit.
That is a common belief, but there is no clear digestive benefit for most people. In some people, the carbonation and acidity can make bloating or heartburn feel worse.
If the goal is alertness, coffee is usually the more direct option. Cola also comes with sugar and is an ultra-processed drink, so it is easy to overuse as a daily habit.
Its acidity and sugar can contribute to enamel wear and tooth decay with frequent exposure. Sipping it slowly over many hours is usually worse for teeth than having it with a meal.
If you choose to drink it, having it alongside a meal with protein and fibre is generally more balanced than drinking it on its own. That may help reduce a quick rebound in hunger for some people.
Many colas contain caffeine, which can make it harder for some people to fall asleep if consumed late in the day. If you are caffeine-sensitive, earlier is usually better.
People who are sensitive to caffeine, prone to reflux or heartburn, or trying to cut back on sugary drinks should be more cautious. Regular intake is also not ideal for children.
